Little Fish Learning Program
Introduction
Little Fish Learning is a program developed for teaching English. This version is designed for use in Cambodia. It is made up of visual and sound resources and teaching materials, all of which have been created by Margaret Lomdahl. Where suitable, teaching materials are bilingual for teaching early language and literacy in either language.

Program Overview
The main purpose of Little Fish Learning Program is to teach the “building blocks” of spoken and written English.
The program is divided into three Apps. The first to be published is the Beginning Language App. The Books for Reading and Listening App will soon be published. The Beginning Writing App is still under development.
Companion teaching materials in book format are also available.
Full teaching instructions in English and Khmer are included in each digital App. The teaching procedure for the Beginning Language program is also included in both languages in "Book 5: Teach
Sentences in English". The Books for Reading and Listening are bilingual and can be used for teaching early literacy and numeracy in Khmer as well as English. Teaching books are published by Lomdahl Ink.
Beginning Language
The Beginning Language program is based on a format of “Look, Listen and Say”. It has a strong focus on pronunciation and repetition. It uses pictures, audio and written words to learn
- sounds- the representation of sounds as written words, and- the basic structure of oral language.
Books for Reading and Listening
The Books for Reading and Listening program contains bilingual picture books with English audio that will help students develop reading, listening and speaking skills.The books include the vocabulary learned in Beginning Language and introduce new words and grammar.
Beginning Writing
The Beginning Writing program uses images, audio and text to show correct naming and writing of capitals and lower case letters, and the conventions of writing sentences. Sentences are developed using the words learned in Beginning Language and new words are also introduced.
Teaching MaterialsVisual Resource Books
The visual resources for each part of the Beginning Language Program are presented in separate books so the program can be shared among classes. The books are approximately A4 in size with many double page images and printed in full colour.
Book 1:Teach Spoken English
Book 1 has an 'Image only' format for teaching oral language.
Book 2: Teach Reading in English
Book 2 has an 'Image with text' format for teaching letter-sound correspondence. A guide to correct letter formation is included for teacher reference.
Book 3: Teach Colours in English
Book 3 has both 'Image only' and 'Image with text' sections for teaching all parts of the Beginning Language Program.
Book 4: Teach Numbers in English
Book 4 has an 'Image with numeral' section for teaching oral language and a 'Numeral with word' section for teaching letter-sound correspondence and sentence structure. Some additional material is included for teacher reference.
Book 5: Teach Sentences in English
Book 5 has two parts.
Part 1 has the teaching procedure for the Beginning
Language Program for easy teacher reference
when teaching.Part 2 contains images and words for teaching sentences.
Books for Reading and Listening
The following books accompany the Books for Reading and Listening App (soon to be released on Google Play). They are designed to be read aloud and suitable for teaching in English and Khmer. All of the books are approximately A4 in size and printed in colour.
Colours I See
A simple picture book about colours, suitable for students learning English or for teaching young children in Khmer.
One Purple Pig
A simple picture book for teaching colours, numbers, counting and names of animals.
Which Pig is the Big Pig?
A picture book in question and answer format that teaches about prepositions and how to form a question.
This is My Scarf
A picture book story about the author's visits to Cambodia.
It introduces some concepts of actions and emotions.
Sanket, Yanni, Margaret
and Lou
A picture book about people from other countries who are visiting or working in Cambodia. Each character is featured separately.
Beginning Language App
